Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adem Binnetoglu
A Success Story Extending to the World…
Born in 1980 in Kars, Dr. Binnetoğlu completed his high school education as the top student after primary and secondary school. During his university education, he became the top student of the 4th term at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. He graduated in 2006 as the third top student of the faculty. In the same year, he passed the Medical Specialization Examination (TUS) with a top ranking in Turkey and worked as an assistant in the Ophthalmology Department at Beyoğlu Eye Training and Research Hospital for one year. In 2007, he took the TUS exam again, achieving another top ranking, and chose the Department of Otorhinolaryngology (ENT) – Head and Neck Surgery at Marmara University Faculty of Medicine. He became a Specialist Doctor in 2013.

Between 2013 and 2017, Dr. Binnetoğlu worked as a Specialist Doctor in the Department of ENT – Head and Neck Surgery at Marmara University. During this period, he not only trained medical students and ENT assistants but also performed over 6,000 surgeries with an intense workload. In 2015, he worked in the Pediatric ENT – Head and Neck Surgery Department at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, with Prof. Dr. Daniel Choo and Prof. Dr. John H. Greinwald, specializing in pediatric ENT diseases.
In 2017, Dr. Binnetoğlu received the title of Assistant Professor at the Department of ENT – Head and Neck Surgery at Marmara University. During this period, he published numerous original, high-value scientific and innovative academic works. In the same year, he applied for Associate Professorship and earned the title of Associate Professor Doctor by excelling in both the publication and oral exam evaluation processes. Following this period, he focused on airway surgery with laser, rhinoplasty, advanced endoscopic sinus surgery, advanced ear surgery, and head and neck surgery, along with publishing academic papers on these topics.
In 2016, he discovered a new method to stop unwanted bleeding after tonsillectomy and published his study titled “Gelatin-Thrombin Hemostatic Matrix May Reduce Secondary Bleeding After Pediatric Tonsillectomy,” which gained worldwide attention. This study was published by Reuters Health News Agency, one of the world’s best news agencies (July 22, 2016, Reuters Health, New York, USA).
In 2018, Dr. Binnetoğlu introduced a new surgical method for treating carotid body tumors, named “Intraoperative Intratumoral Injection of Gelatin – Thrombin Matrix (III-GTHM) for Carotid Body Tumour Excision,” earning global academic recognition in this field.
In 2016, he passed the EBE – ORL (European Board Examination in Otorhinolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery) and received the European Board Certification in ENT – Head and Neck Surgery.
Dr. Binnetoğlu successfully passed the US Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE) and obtained the ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certificate in 2017. Between 2018 and 2020, he completed a Rhinology Fellowship (Advanced Specialty in Nasal and Sinus Diseases) at Tufts University St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. With this training, he became Turkey’s first officially certified Rhinology Specialist. During this time, he worked with world-renowned Prof. Dr. Peter Catalano on MIST (Minimally Invasive Sinus and Nasal Surgery Technique), pediatric/adult airway surgery, and endoscopic sinus surgery.
During the same period, he completed a rotation at the Lippy Surgery Center in Youngstown, Ohio, where he performed nasal and sinus surgeries with Dr. Tonia Farmer. He also worked on sleep apnea, snoring, and sleep medicine at the Eastern Ohio Pulmonary and Sleep Medicine Center in Boardman, Ohio, with Dr. Manuel Bautista, Dr. Rebecca S. Bailey, and Dr. Ritha Kartan. Additionally, he lectured medical students, family medicine assistants, and internal medicine assistants at Northside Regional Medical Center, teaching rhinology, thyroid, parathyroid surgery, salivary gland surgery, and head and neck surgery.
During his time in the USA, he performed over 1,000 nasal and sinus surgeries, some of which were considered innovative on a global scale.
Having performed over 1.000 surgeries in his post-specialization career, Dr. Binnetoğlu currently works in his own clinic. He is married and has three children.
